Profile
In IT industry there are a huge demand of skilled professionals and
Indian IT professionals are well accepted all around the world. In view of
this, IT department was established to train and cater the higher education
in North-East as well as rest of India.
The department also gives consultation for computerization to various
other departments inside and outside the University.
The department is also working in establishing IT industry in
North East Region which will help the economy of the region.
Mission
The
department of Information Technology under School of Technology, Assam
University was established in the year 2006 with a mission to produce IT
professionals for software industries, research institutes, educational
institutions in India and abroad. Emphasis on 'Learning by Doing' and on the
value of useful knowledge, is at the heart of the department.
Facilities
Computer
Laboratory
One fully equipped computer laboratory
with 30 computers that are connected through LAN and one digital
electronics laboratory is in function.
Two more computer laboratories will be
set-up very soon. This will help the students to know all different
types of the Operating System environments.
At least one of the new laboratories will
be connected by wireless networking, so that the students can get the
know-how of the wired as well as the wireless technologies.
The Department is connected to the
Campus-wide network of the University to avail 24 hours internet
connectivity.
Apart from these, at School level, there
are Mechanical Workshop, Engineering Drawing and Electrical Laboratories.
Library
A
well-equipped Central Library is there with 1000+ books along with
National and International Journals. The Department is in its way to setup
one departmental library in this year itself.
Hostel
Separate
hostels for Boys and Girls are available. The students may avail it
after getting admission.
