Departmental Profile: The Department launched its M.Sc. Programme in July 1996. Duration of the Post Graduate course is two years. The first year training deals with core courses like cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, environmental science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, research techniques, microbiology and biotechnology. In the second year, students are exposed to frontier areas in Plant and Animal sciences depending upon their previous background. A number of research projects funded by DBT, UGC, DST, TAI, ICAR, MOEn have been undertaken by the faculty members of the department. UGC has sanctioned ‘Special Assistance Programme’ ( DRS) to the Department of Life Science. Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Govt. of India has sanctioned centre of Bio-Informetics to the Departments of Life Science. The department has recently revised the syllabus as per the National and Regional needs. The Central Instrumentation facility is available in the departments. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India, New Delhi has also sanctioned FIST to the Department of Life Science. The students are provided flexibility to select Botany or Zoology stream in 3rd semester and to select their special papers available in the department.
